'China's Left Behind Children' series nominated for Livingston Award

We are excited to announce that the FP series "China's Left Behind Children," by freelance journalists Deborah Jian Lee and Sushma Subramanian has been named a finalist in international reporting for the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists. The May 2012 series, published in two parts and funded by a grant from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, followed the migrant worker Huang Dongyan. Huang, then 38, decided to raise her son in the boomtown of Shenzhen instead of leaving him in the countryside with his grandmother, and the series looked at the challenges she faced. The two articles are here and here.

This year's $10,000 prizes will be announced on June 6 in New York City.
