It might be the end of American hegemony in the global political and economic order, but unemployed and underpaid Americans can at least take heart at today's news.

Social networking site Badoo.com conducted a poll of 30,000 people in 15 countries to name the coolest nationality. Surprise! - despite a sinking economy, pathetic politics, and increasingly suspect pop culture exports -- Americans are still number 1.

According to Reuters, the top ten coolest nationalities are:

1. Americans
2. Brazilians
3. Spanish
4. Italians
5. French
6. British
7. Dutch
8. Mexicans
9. Argentinians
10. Russians

The five least cool?

1. Belgians
2. Poles
3. Turks
4. Canadians
5. Germans

According to Reuters:

"We hear a lot in the media about anti-Americanism," says Lloyd Price, Badoo's Director of Marketing. "But we sometimes forget how many people across the world consider Americans seriously cool."

"America," says Price, "boasts the world's coolest leader, Obama; the coolest rappers, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg; and the coolest man in technology, Steve Jobs of Apple, the man who even made geeks cool."

It's unknown how Obama's coolness factors into his job approval ratings by Americans - the most recent polls say that more than half of the country disapproves of him as leader of the pack.

What? This "survey" is wrong in many ways

I question whether this survey is even credible, especially coming from a source that certainly has most of its users in European countries and excludes many countries that would have a lower opinion of the United States if they were included in it.
Also, the demographics of the users of Badoo ( a social networking site) will most certainly distort any meaningful and accurate information on the real opinions of the United States and other nations listed here.

This is one of the worst articles that contain many inaccuracies that I've read in a good while.

WTF??

"Cool"??

(The people in the photo look like total dorks to me!)

In any case, how on earth can the "results" of this incredibly bizarre "survey" be expected to amount to anything??

God's answer to Rick Perry's prayers??

15 nationalities deciding between themselves

According to the Badoo corporate press release (http://corp.badoo.com/el/entry/press/26/) the 15 countries listed above were the very countries where the poll was conducted and they could choose only from the list of 15. So if anyone thought that for example the Japanese or the Australians were any cool, they couldn't say it. Moreover, the poll was not carried out in China, India, Japan, Africa, or the Arab countries, so its hardly representative. The title should be: "America is the most popular among itself and its allies."

Don't get me wrong, it was a good joke from badoo, but having America parade itself based on this dubious piece of popularity stung is nauseating.

Hooray! Great publicity for Badoo!

I assume they've been cracking a few bottles at their success. I recently saw a brief conversation between two foreigners, one talking about unpleasant social understandings in Somalia. The other, a teenager, made it clear she thought he'd been talking about the United States. In world terms, the US still has some distance to go in recovering from the kick in the slats George W Bush handed it in 2001-2003.

Coolness

Hollwood has something to do with the coolness factor. With all the Hollywood movies exported worldwide, it influenced a lot of the moviegoers around the world, somehow created a reality that Americans are cool.
