If nothing else, Glenn Beck probably has his top story set for tonight's show:
"There is a really remarkable, rapid shift of power and influence from the United States to China," Mr. Soros said, likening the U.S.'s decline to that of the U.K. after the Second World War.
Because global economic power is shifting, Mr. Soros said China needs to change its focus. "China has risen very rapidly by looking out for its own interests," he said. "They have now got to accept responsibility for world order and the interests of other people as well."
Mr. Soros even went so far as to say that at times China wields more power than the U.S. because of the political gridlock in Washington. "Today China has not only a more vigorous economy, but actually a better functioning government than the United States," he said, a hard statement for him to make because he spent much of his life donating to anti-communist groups in Eastern Europe.
Soros's statement is similar to the frequent "China-for-a-day" musings of columnist Tom Friedman.
On a related subject, Kay King of the Council on Foreign Relations has a new report out on the U.S. congress's impact on national security. King's critiques of congressional procedure, in particular the filibuster, won't be news to anyone who's read recent critiques of congressional dysfunction, but she makes a compelling case that because of limited public interest, congress is effectively abandoning its oversight role on national security affairs. Issues like energy, trade, and immigration are typically treated as purely domestic issues by congress, while membership on foreign affairs committees appeal only to members positioning themselves for higher office or those dependent on ethnic or business special interests.
King writes:
When Congress fails to perform, national security suffers thanks to ill-considered policies, delayed or inadequate resources, and insufficient personnel. Without congressional guidance, allies and adversaries alike devalue U.S. policies because they lack the support of the American peopel that is provided through their representatives in Congress.
King provides a number of ideas for reform which will hopefully be a bit more palatable to U.S. sensibilities than taking cues on good governance from Beijing.

Hey big spender, is that why you have pumped so much cash into the worthless liberal coffers in America? How much did you throw down the drain for the Secretary of State Project? Plus continue to fund worthless liberal agendas like PMSNBC, Media Doesn't Matter, Can you do that in China too? Why don't you take your dog face and pony show on the road, like to China, and don't come back here you Socialist.
You can't even speak English well. Just shut your pie hole. You don't matter to my country or over 80% of the people here. Get out and stay out.
Republicans won, deal with it.
DP
The reason China might be surpassing the government of the USA is because they don't have a rich, sleazy Hungarian Decepticon trying to manipulate their government.
I would like to see Soros try his crap there with OSI, Moveon, Tides and all his other organizations... organizations designed to undermine the US government in order to corrupt it and remove our freedoms. If Georgey-Boy tried his crap there he would be put in a Gulag like prison.
why is China getting stronger and better?
In the past few decades, China has indeed become better and stronger economically, because it abandoned socialist and embraced market economy/capitalism. Had its reform included a fundamental change in its political system towards democracy, China would have had even brighter tomorrow. The fact that Soros appraises China's (current) political system/government says a lot about this man, doesn't it? Putting your political view or ideology aside for a second and ask yourself: do you really want this man and his kind continue to manipulate our political process?
Go to China George. We really don't want you anyway. Try you backstabbing ways over there, you will not last a second. You had better thank AMERICA for your free speech.
Although Soros is akin to something I scrapped off my shoe the other day, he may be correct about China. His conclusions are wrong, as usual. A "better functioning goverment" gave us Berrycare and Trillions in debt. Last I checked, the most efficient and smooth running government was North Korea, no decent at all. The people want and deserve gridlock precisely because we are a red/blue country. Progress is SUPPOSE to be slow to keep the governement in check. Oh and BTW China, congrats on your economic success. How is that one-child and one-dog policy working out for you?
@PC - He wouldn't be in a gulag-like prison, he'd be dead! Too bad he hasn't given them a try yet!
Ya and his free a**, he was once owned by the nazi's I understand
Soros is an American citizen, and he HATES this country. He is guiltyof sedition and should be procecuted to the fullest extent of the law. What other country would abide this attack by any citizen, rich or poor? But I guess when you have a friendly in the Whitehouse, you get rather full of yourself.
Soros is not a "fellow American"; he is a Hungarian and his interests are NOT American interests. He has worked very hard to tear down America and her vision of freedom, enterprise, capitalism and family. He has admitted as much in the punblication of his 5 steps to winning when an economy sours. He has done it befopre and he's doing it TO AMERICA now. You may not like the personal attacks, but they are based on a recognition fo Soros' evil and ill-intent.
And.... DOn't even THINK about playing the racecard. He is only a Jew when it's convenient. He sold out the Jews a long time ago! Besides the ObamaDonkeys played that card so early and so often thta it has lost all relevance and meaning. As soon as someone calls you a racist, you know you've just met a mindless liberal.
try prisons - best in town, eh, the world
He should try them and report to his buddy in the White House, to former house majority leader and to former boxer in Senate. We'll send them to the very best Chinese establishment in home made orange suites..
I think Soros hit it here with his comment "China has risen very rapidly by looking out for its own interests" Of course this would not be allowed if the US tried to do that- it's expected that we give everyone anything while holding nothing for our selves. We,the US, should take heed of Soros comments and start doing that very same thing- then we would see the US climb back out of this hole we dug!
China's isolationist "we have no obligations only strategic alliances" mentality seems to make a lot of sense in these lean times. Why the US throws away billions on foreign aid is beyond me.
Excellent point. Thank You.
"Democratic civilization is the first in history to blame itself because another power is trying to destroy it."
-Jean-Francois Revel (1970)
How fast can a citizenship be revoked?
Maybe Mr. Soros/Schwartz has worn out his welcome in the US. He'd love China. What a great place to live. Please, sir, move.
I am amazed that he is criticizing Obama's administration when he paid so much for it. He must want to be the evil man behind the curtains, controlling the world. I'm not sure how well that would go over in China, actually.
Oh well, he's very old. Even with the billions he's made the last two years, thanks to Obama, he can't live much longer. He denies he regrets his past. He fully enjoyed taking the property of fellow Jews on their way to the death camps. He said that was his most fun year ever. What a creep.
Yes he is old and when he dies we can all take solace in his spending eternity in the lake of fire.
the sooner he is on a plane to China and never allowed back the better.
maybe we should keep some of his money here to pay the natiional debt
The best thing about him is that he is old and he will be dead soon, thank GOD. Son of bitch better have a fucking asbestos suit on. Actually I hope he doesn't. All the Jews he has betrayed should put him thru the ovens for eternity!
He has two sons (and I believe a brother) who will take up the cause when he is gone . . .
Right before the Wehrmacht took Budapest, Soros' wealthy JEWISH father paid to have Georgy's papers forged, showing that he was the Christian Godson of a powerful Hungarian official. Young Georgy was 14 years old and he went to live with this official. This official was later responsible for confiscating Jewish property and wealth, and then sending them to the death camps. Over 70K Jews in Budapest were sent to their deaths. Young Georgy, a Jew, witnessed all this and later used this wealth as a way to jump start his "career"! He later collaborated with Francois Geroud, the Swiss banker who had direct access to the stolen Jewish millions that the Third Reich had secretly deposited into his bank. It was used to bank roll the Odessa Network, funded the David Irving book, which attempted to discredited the Anne Frank Diaries, that "only" 1M Jews were exterminated, not 6M, and that Hitler knew nothing of these exterminations. Soros and Geroud were "one worlders", and they both owned the Arab Commercial Bank in Switzerland that paid for the Klaus Barbie defense, and funded hundreds of "Palestinian" terrorist groups. One of those groups was the Muslim Brotherhood, who have been responsible for Muslim terror for 50 years(CAIR is nothing more than a front group for them). So, Soros a Jew, to save himself while his fellow Jews died by the millions, pretended to be a Christian in WWII, and then used those confiscated Jewish millions to start his global empire. Yet, today his hatred for Christians is well documented! Isn't it ironic the very thing he hates most, was used to save his miserable self! Not only is he the most evil individual on the planet, but he is this country's greatest threat. Either, internally or externally.
I had no idea that was his background. Will be checking into what you've posted, it beggars belief!
Make a real impact! Vote out your "favourite" DemocRAT and we can take back our country
A hard statement for Soros to make....really?
They say his praise of Communist China was hard for him to make since he spent so much time donating to anti communist groups in Europe.
Two things:
1) He is out for his own self interest. If he was trying to collapse the currency of a communist/socialist gov't it wasnt because he disagreed with them but for his own personal gain.
2) Every group he supports over here is socialist/communist in nature or at the very least supports "fundamentally transforming America". As a hedge fund manager, you can bet he has hedged his bets in favor of American currency collapsing.
Well it's high time SOROS move to China then. As for me he can take all the left wing progressives with him.
Soros seems suffering sour grapes - paid so much to win and lost. Habitual loser, I think.
SLOW BOAT TO CHINA -RESERVE A SEAT - YOU MIGHT FIT IN AS A PRACTICING SOCIALIST - TAKE NOBAMA TOO
'COUSE, IN CHINA YOU CAN'T BUY AN ELECTION
So Sorry Soros - So Long - really - VELLY SOLLY!
Government in the U.S. would function a lot smoother if it didn't have to answer to anyone and there would be a lot more money to throw around if we just allowed 80% of our people to live in third world poverty.
We choose not to do that George and guess what, we'll STILL prevail.
George Soros is just the latest in a long line of leftists anxious to write the American obituary.
First the USSR was going to bury us in the 60s and 70s. Then the Arabs were going to buy the whole country. Then the Japanese had an economic system we couldn't possibly compete with.
Now it's the Chinese. I wonder who's next. The Brazilians?
Go away George.
All the US needs is a leader who really believes that the US is still the worlds best hope. President Obama has run around the world appologizing and expressing his and the American left's belief that the US must not be a powerfull leader in the world; that we are in decline. IUT is right, its just another "Sky is falling" moment for those in and out of the country who don't want the US to succeed.
The world is better off because of the US and our belief in personal liberty, free markets and democracy. Their is more freedom in the world than ever before in history and the US will still lead well into the future precisely because of our political system.
A govt run by czars, kings, single administration will definitely run more efficiently. Decisions and actions come faster.BUT, it does not care for the individual as in USA. The system does not care for the individual lets take for instance our OSHA or the environmental group. As much as I dislike Cap & trade, we have at least a coutry to express our opinion to apply or not to apply any ruling. China basically says NO....................
Hey my man Soros, if you like China sooo much better than the good old USA, Move there, we AMERICANS will by you a one way ticket!
Soros. The most evil man in the world
"They have now got to accept responsibility for world order and the interests of other people as well."
Don't tell China that! That's partly why America is in its current decline.
The man is evil...I have looked into his eyes.
Soros: China has better Govt . . .
George Soros has spent decades persuading american business and leaders to go "global" and take their business out of the US, and now praises China for looking after itself.
In addition, he applauds the rapid shift of economic power from the US to China, which happened because Government and industry followed Soros, David Rockefetter, Walmart and others advice to take production out fo the US to third world countries--like China.
Now, having become america's industrial park, China is naturally passing us economically. OUr leaders have betrayed our nation, and the results of their treasonous conduct is everywhere visible.
Soros is merely a proud facilitatof of our decline, and gloating at his success.
It's very efficient for a government to get rid of its opponents by sending them to slave labor camps. It's also efficient to draft masses of people and send them off to work in jobs they wouldn't choose. And let's not forget the efficiency of forcing abortions on women who might otherwise bring children into the world.
I fully support Soros's desire to live under such an efficient regime.
Bon voyage, George!
The reason is China does NOT have George Soros!
Soros, if you think the ChiComs have such a great government, here is a challenge:
1. Move your sorry ass to China.
2. Start criticizing them as you do the US government, and see what happens.
I guess Spooky Dude must be happy. Maybe more than anyone he is responsible for the down fall of Western Civilization in Europe and mabe the US if we don't wake up and reject all his suicidal progressive ideas. So now Spooky Dude is lavishing his praise on China in an attempt to kiss their butt and worm his way into their economy. Problem is China has his number and if he tries the same stunts their that resulted in the destruction of four currencies he won't get off so lightly. China will put him in jail, where he belongs, and throw away the key.
i've been living in china for around 10 years now and its absolutely hilarious to see what the unwashed hoards of passportless americans think places they have never been to are like. its honestly very refreshing to live here... politics are simply something that can be ignored entirely. there are simply a few lines that you don't cross which in reality are very minor things.
china is far freer than the us, hands down, especially when it comes to everyday freedoms.
banks are not out to steal your money... there are no real fees, there is very good security, everything is done real-time and everything can be done online.
most services are pay-as-you-go.... no contracts for phone/TV/internet and no fines or fees for being late.
buying a house here, you actually have to have a real down payment and if you get behind, the banks are very flexible in working out a modified payment schedule.
taxes are paid each and every month and its really rather simple, no yearly tax filing bull.
people are far more likely to protest and rise up when there is an injustice and the government is quick to solve most problems when they arise.
the government is structured in a way that is open to input from industry leaders and the party is essentially technocratic... ie. you actually have to know what you are doing to be a part of it. while it's possible for the communist party to hammer through legislation, it's a serious loss of face to do so without at least 85% approval in the NPC. 70% of the NPC is communist, but it is rare that this supermajority is abused... serious legislation takes years of debate and investigation before it is finalized.
"political contributions" are called what they are, bribes and graft. do they exist? sure, but if you go too far and step on enough toes you get exposed. corrupt politicians in china are executed. as are serious tax evaders and people who cause serious harm to the nation, its economy or to its people.
far more opportunity in china as well. there are endless rags to riches stories here and small business is booming... again, don't step on government toes, pay your taxes and don't cause public disorder and you can go far.
the legal system is kinda messy to be honest, but it's the subject of reform currently. however it is still far more fair than most. confessing and being remorseful goes a long ways to lighter sentencing and serious penalties are very often lightened if you don't fight on technicalities.
the prison system is also not all that bad... the food is not all that great and the administrators are strict, but there are no beatings/rapes/prison gangs. labor in prisons is required, however it is not harsh and very related to the skillset of the prisoner... the point is to help develop skills they can use in the outside world to avoid falling back on what landed them there in the first place. 8 hours a day and the same exact benefits accorded to SOE employees
rip on china all you want, but odds are you have never lived here, don't actually know anyone who lives here and have no idea what you are talking about at all.
If China is such a heaven then why are there so many Chinese immigrants here in the evil U.S. of A? Why are they trying so hard to risk their lives to come here? Makes me wonder about your sanity.
Oh BTW do you remember Tianamen Square? That's how free the Chinese are to express their opinion on the government.
Been There, have friends there, & your acct is WRONG
WoW! Talk about a guy who must live in Hong Kong...you clearly have not seen some of the prisons in the Hunan Province or talked to missionaries who have been arrested, beaten or those that have been killed all in China. Beijing as I saw was not so great, very run down and the old buildings from the first bid for the olympics were falling apart...so it was surprising to see the new buildings for the 2008 Olympics cost businesses and families there homes and means of making a living. Most were paid little if anything....hundreds were simply forced to leave without any compensation. So, please go on and expound about how great your life is there...but try to voice any real disagreement outside of one of the major cities or even within them and we all know what happens...I have dozens of friends who have been there for longer than you and your 10 years. Really, how long did they hold you before you were brainwashed?
Sad you are trying to paint a picture of a wonderful Chinese Government when everyone has a perfectly clear view of the actual country you are trying to conceal with smoke and mirrors!
Question to LAOMEI
If China is such a heaven then why are there so many Chinese immigrants here in the evil U.S. of A? Why are they trying so hard to risk their lives to come here? Makes me wonder about your sanity.
Oh BTW do you remember Tianamen Square? That's how free the Chinese are to express their opinion on the government.

Well it should be rather obvious, they are in the US because they can get paid higher wages and support people back in China. to be rich is glorious afterall. Over the years I have personally assisted numerous Chinese in getting to the US, the vast majority of them come back to China after a few years. The ones that stay tend to be either the wacko fringe or ones who find a niche market that is high profit.
As for 6/4... is that really the best you can do? Pull up something from over 20 years ago that was sensationalized and that you honestly have zero understanding of?
6/4 happened due to a rapid influx of NEW FREEDOMS and students who demanded faster change without any focus or planning. The first generation that was untouched by the excesses of the cultural revolution and a privileged class of people who were out of touch with the actual needs of the country.
6/4 happened because there was no ability to negotiate and there were no real leaders or spokespeople... believe it or not, the government tried to sit down and talk with self-claimed leaders, however they were not acknowledged as leaders by the masses. Zhao Ziyang, one of the "good guys" according to the students was a hack who was losing his power, stepping on way too many toes and had ulterior motives which were purely political. Rushing out to the square was a hail mary tactic which was not in line with reality.
Students were attacking the police, attacking the military and setting fires all around the square. At a time when the nation was in a precarious spot due to the collapsing USSR, the NUMBER ONE responsibility of the government was to ensure stability and order, not allowing a decent into chaos and destruction.
I advise you to try anything similar in the US and see what happens. Go on, go to the national mall, start setting fires, refuse to vacate and then start attacking riot police... see how fast things degrade.
The choices of 6/4 were unfortunate ones, however there were no good choices. Either entirely abandon 1 billion people and leave them to the whims of a handful of students and their demands, or suppress the riots. Seeing as China is still around today and has markedly improved in the past 20 years with new expansions of freedom, i'd have to say that the correct choice was made.
I have some good friends in government here, a benefit of living here for over 10 years and going to college here. The reasons why more information about 6/4 is not released publicly has more to do with how it will be exploited and twisted by foreign media than the actual events of what happened and why.
I might as well go and drag america through the gutter on Kent State and the Bonus Army as well as endless strike suppressions all throughout american history. it's just about as relevant to modern issues as 6/4 is.
WoW! Talk about a guy who must live in Hong Kong...you clearly have not seen some of the prisons in the Hunan Province or talked to missionaries who have been arrested, beaten or those that have been killed all in China. Sad you are trying to paint a picture of a wonderful Chinese Government when everyone has a perfectly clear view of the actual country you are trying to conceal with smoke and mirrors!
------
Hong Kong? hahaha, hell no. Beijing for the majority and sichuan/xinjiang for a few years in there for good measure.
So, lets go about picking apart your arguments shall we?
Issue #1 - Olympic related development.
People are very very very greedy when it comes to land compensation. When it was slated for development, the land was cheap. As housing skyrocketed in Beijing, these people decided they were no longer happy with the new apartments and cash compensation they received. Classic eminent domain issues that exist in every country.
People who were paid nothing? Yep, if you are squatting or living in illegal construction, you don't have the right to demand compensation... simple concept here.
Issue #2 - Missionaries
Really basic stuff here, you are perfectly allowed to practice your religion here, whatever it is as long as it does not create public disorder. If you want to step that up and go around preaching, it's gotta have government oversight to ensure it's not a bunch of extremist crazy talk. You are not allowed to prosthelytize and you are not allowed to induct minors. There is loads of historical reasoning for this and it makes perfect sense. Personally, I love not having crazy street preachers throwing around disgusting pictures and spreading illogical nonsense and endless fear mongering. If you consider having those things to be "freedom", well, you can keep it... no one wants it here.
furthermore, you can dissent and criticize pretty much all you want here within reason.
"within reason" being the keypoint.
will your protest result in mass civil unrest?
will your protest contain rumors and falsehoods?
is your protest focused on challenging the legitimacy of the government?
is your protest consisting of unconstructive or deconstructive criticism offering no alternate strategy?
is your protest for ulterior motives and deriving undeserved personal gains?
will your protest involve issues which are damaging to national security?
if you answered "no" to these, feel free to go ahead and protest, if you can help solve a problem by providing a forward-looking and constructive solution or insight, the government definitely appreciates it and encourages it. The vast majority of corruption is conducted at local levels by low-level officials. as long as you yourself are "clean", all it takes is a bit of documentation and a few posts online. The government stance now is less about covering up and more about resolving legitimate issues.
it ain't all sunshine and roses here, however my own experience over the years is that china-bashers and sinophobes have no idea what they are talking about at all and are clueless as to how they are being manipulated. i'm not going to even bother pointing out what the real issues here are, because despite any explanation of the standard bull, the bull stays and is then seemingly legitimized with the addition of real issues. so it's pointless, your heads are thick, eyes blind and ears shut to anything that doesnt fit into your irrational world views.
Hey, I have lived in China. In a land of a zillion people, you can get away with a lot. But when you are caught,or worse have donenothign wrong and are targeted to be taken down, there is no justice, there is no openess, there is THE PARTY BOSS fast track to prison. You are a laughable idiot propagandist for a regime that is biting its nails because the people there are on the brink of open revolt. The tensions between urban and rural populations and the social managment that has failed keeps your dear leaders awake at night. The cities stink, you can barely see through choking smog and the recent deadly fire of the apartment building is symptomtic of a society built on an irrational rush to excess, hard line absolutists, corner cutting and corruption. Been there, seen that. You lie about the fundamentals that will bring the regime down.
Lived in china eh CANDIDVIEWS?
"living in china" != 8 days in china.

Thanks for the feedback on 6/4
Do appreciate your input here. Gives us info to think for ourselves better. I've noticed the "binge villifications" made against China - especially on your "6/4" (that's the uncensored reference designation, I take it). I'm an US Vet (who has been on Public Security Detail) with Japanese Familial ties. With all the "physical" actions taken against the Riot Police and their Military, it's no wonder some deaths would occur.
As I told a friend's daughter (who was too young to understand at the time, yet villifies as she drank a vat of american "Kool-Aide"), every Country has their method of legally initiating and implementing sociopolitical reforms. Once the Riot Police and the Military are deployed to maintain order, the true reformers are held hostage of the Anarchists. As we had unreasonable people try to harass torch carriers (one wheel-chair bound participant comes to mind) for the 2008 Beijing(Peking) Olympics, I'm certain there were those who not only challenged the Authorities on 6/4; but engaged in violent conduct harmful to others.
Note that a good portion of the PRC villifications (or anti-PRC demonstrations) have had Taiwanese people involved (e.g. torch bearers). Partially due to my Japanese Heritage, I'm finding that I get the persecution by such persons (and their fellow church mates, etc.) in the US (both Coasts) as well. Strange, since they do act quite friendly in Japan.
As you can tell, I find the "two-faced" ethnic-prejudice practice and overblown propaganda-esque villifications abhorrent; and would prefer to dialog with honest persons - regardless of their worldview.
The US does have its own set of issues that require the people to debate, revise, and implement.
Again, thanks. You provided more feedback than most news agencies ever did...
I'm a Chinese and I start wondering whether you are really a foreigner or not, since you sounds like a "5 cents", our Party's cyber propaganda poster.
Freedom of demonstration? Yes, it is honored in the Constitution. But in practice, demonstration can only be legal when authorized by local government, since in China, Constitution is subject to the Party.
Every day freedom? Fine when you have no interest in politics at all.
Censorship is not so bad as westerners may think though at times quite annoying if you try to visit some banned Taiwan and Hong Kong web. As for the 3 main western web banned:Facebook, Youtube, and twitter, I just don't know whether the government banned them for censorship or protectionism, for our domestic equivalent flourish.
Don't waste your time talking sense to these people
They are so far into their alternative universe painted by Glenn Beck and Fox that they have lost the able to understand reality, comprehend logics and come up with an intelligent counter-argument based on facts.
The best they can do, and sadly also the last line of defense they can put up, is "if you like it so much, why don't you move to China" or "you must be a commie working for the Chinese government because you disagree with me - the one who always knows the truth."
I think they learned that tactic from they obese, lazy and moody wife/girlfriend who, everytime she caught a glimpse of him staring at a beautiful lady on the street or salivating over a Victoria Secrets ad, yells "if you like her so much, why don't you move out of the house and marry her, and btw, give me all your money on your way out."
After reading "unwashed hoards of passportless americans" I stopped reading. I have no time for elitist scum who think they are smarter than millions of people they've never met.
You don't get to blow off everyone else's opinion.
Sure, I've never lived in China. I've never played violin either, but I know a sour note when I hear one, and I don't have to go somewhere to be able to reason and find trusted sources of information, and to have a valid opinion. I have known plenty of PRC Chinese and pretty much all of them are planning to stay here in the US permanently, and none of them could be categorized as "wackos." They're physicists and software engineers, mostly. These are people who could easily find a job in China, wouldn't you think?
Your long, carefully worded defense sounds like propaganda to me. No place is as rosy as that and I know what price Chinese cities have to pay for all that growth - horrible pollution, traffic jams the likes of which exist nowhere else in the world, and the mass exodus from the countryside into the cities has led to major overcrowding which puts serious strain on infrastructure. I think it's pretty clear that government oversight is highly dependent on the moral capacity of the person running the various departments, and the fact that they miss (or ignore) serious problems with the food supply (infant formula contaminated with melamine??) and consumer products tells me that the government is dysfunctional in key areas. Their knee-jerk reaction to any external criticism is also quite ridiculous, only matched by the Turks. You seem to have joined in the fun.
I also know where you haven't been - the countryside. Any a-hole who insists that the Chinese government functions better than the USA's obviously hasn't been there either. From what I understand from people who HAVE been there, particularly in Western China, people are still living in what amounts to 19th century conditions and the Chinese government has almost no idea what's going on, much less any real control there. Frankly I think the problem is China is just too damned big (both geographically and by population) to be effective over the whole place, so the government just focuses on the areas where the most money and people are. The US has an advantage of being 1/4th the size but it's almost too big itself. That's just basic economics - an organization, once it gets over a certain size, eventually becomes too expensive to administrate effectively.
I'm boggled that nobody even brought up the Tibet issue. Not that Tibetans themselves are beyond reproach, but China did invade and annex a sovereign country, and immediately began patriating Han Chinese there. Nobody with half a brain thinks that had anything to do with historical reasons, rather it was about the massive amounts of uranium and other natural resources Tibet has. How are the Tibetans treated by the government, which is almost entirely Han Chinese? From where I stand there is a thick glass ceiling for ethnic minorities unless you sell out your group's interests completely, sometimes not even then.
The gender imbalance has become a serious problem in some areas too, from what I understand, what with gender-based abortions and the occasional female infanticide, to where some areas have 20% more boys than girls. You also don't mention forced abortions which have been documented by reliable sources (no I won't cite it, you people know how to use a search engine).
People can say whatever they want on the internet without having to prove themselves - even post other people's addresses and not their own. The fact that you did this tells me you're pretty desperate to discredit critics.
I hate to find myself on the side of the "Soros is part of the Illuminati Conspiracy for New World Order" nutjobs, but he's at best an ignorant, shortsighted git for saying this, and you Laomei, are a shill who doesn't know the difference between hoard and horde.
