After the success of last year's photo essay Vova and Dima 4eva, I made a New Year's resolution that I was done with posting ridiculous, vaguely romantic pictures of Russia's ruling tandem. But the Kremlin's media team seems hell-bent on providing them.

Update: Via Sean's Russia Blog, this is pretty funny:

winter sports

First, a heartfelt congratulations to the USA junior hockey team for winning the World Cup in Saskatoon last night defeating Canada in overtime on a goal from John Carlson. Tremendous competition, in many ways more exciting than NHL.

Back to your photos.

Why the snarky remark accompanying them? Better not to have published them at all than have published with a wise-ass disrespectful remark.

After all, it is Orthodox Christmas. How do we celebrate our Christmas? Why (hopefully) with at least some recreation. At least we do in Canada.

Besides, Russia is preparing Sochi for Winter Olympics. Vancouver's is up next. Isn't it good PR for a forthcoming venue somehow to draw attention to its own future event ?

I thought the decade of cynicism was over.

Looks like we can look forward to more cynicism from FP at least, insofar as Russian leadership is concerned. Levada Center says these leaders remain popular, even through a recession. Why not let Russians decide whether these photos are worthy?
