Zelaya back in Honduras

Mon, 09/21/2009 - 5:17pm

Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya has returned to his country and sought refuge inside the Brazilian embassy. The BBC reports:

"[We travelled] for more than 15 hours... through rivers and mountains until we reached the capital of Honduras, which we reached in the early hours of the morning," he said.

"We overtook military and police obstacles, all those on the highways here, because this country has been kidnapped by the military forces."

He said he was consulting with sectors of Honduran society and the international community in order "to start the dialogue for the reconstruction of the Honduran democracy".

Mr Zelaya's supporters have gathered outside UN buildings in Tegucigalpa, after initial reports suggested he was there.

Interestingly, Zelaya is scheduled to address the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday. The official schedule, which still lists him as "President of the Republic of Honduras," has him speaking between Alvaro Uribe and Dmitry Medvedev some time after 3 p.m. Guess he's probably not making that engagement.

Foreign policy towards Honduras

I am a Honduran citizen.
Over here we know the US ambassador, Mr. Llorens is a close personal friend of the deposed Mr. Zelaya. Mr. Llorens uses US state resources to contact Mr. Zelaya´s supporters to activate support for him, resulting in riots, terrorism and continued vandalism and unrest. If Mr. Llorens is so in love with Mr. Zelaya and his supporter MR HUGO CHAVEZ, why doesn´t the USA send Mr. Llorens as ambassador to Venezuela to help pursue the strategic interests of his own country? Llorens loves Chavez anyway. Was he not the advisor to the US State Dept. when Hugo Chavez returned to power 10 years ago? I don´t know about mr. Obama, but Llorens loves revolutionary socialism in Latin America.
Our constitution is our constitution and we have abided by it.
No American socialist or Chilean or Venezuelan or other latin leftie will take that away from us or our right to have CONSTITUTIONALLY SCHEDULED ELECTIONS which were already approved by Mr. Zelaya before the June 28 destitution from power. If you so love Mr. Zelaya, Hugo Chavez etc. then have him run your own countries then come to us.
Mr. Obama reveals the true hypocrisy of US foreign relations where it is better to be a fart sniffer of communist dictators like Hugo Chavez because they have oil. Big deal.
Keep your oil and your FARC served drugs and let us have our elections and our constitution.
As long as the US keeps bending over like that damaging old US allies like us, the rest of the world will continue losing respect to your country and other world powers will emerge.
