It was about a 30-minute wait for me at the polls in Northwest D.C. Much more civilized than Ohio four years ago. What are all of you in the swing states and around the world seeing today?
...switching over to election night mode. Post reactions here throughout the evening.
I am in Norfolk, VA area. Was in line by 530am for polls opening at 6. Already quite a line (in the rain). Once polls opened at 6 it took an hour. Can see that time just getting longer throughout the day. Lots of excited people in line though, despite the rain and the early hour!
I had a one hour wait in Pittsburgh, so far there is a strong turn out of college students here.
Not that our votes count for anything but...
I spent an hour and a half waiting in NW DC this morning, but I hear the line was much shorter by 9am.
but decent lines in NYC. I'm excited!!
45 minutes in Arlington, Virginia this morning around 9 AM. Voted a paper ballot. Paper was much less popular than voting electronically, and I was ballot #240.
The best part was my morning commute: The highways were deserted. That's change I can believe in!
Fairly short wait this morning at the polls, not longer than about 15 or 20 minutes. This is in Williamsburg VA, whose electorate has swelled this year after the registration of two thousand students from the College of William and Mary. Many folks seem to think that if Virginia goes Obama (which looks likely) that McCain doesn't have a chance. We'll have to see what happens.
Our polling place is in NE metro Atlanta. We got to the polls by 6:45am for the 7am open. There was quite a line but it moved quickly and the wait did not feel unreasonable. All machines were in order and the staff was great.
Reporting from Wake County, North Carolina (where the capital, Raleigh, is located), a "bellweather battleground" area according to some pundits...
Voting at noon was light, but poll workers said early voting was very heavy.
Like other places, it is raining, which may suppress turnout as well.
Just heard from my sister in tha' Lou - 35 minute wait to get her ballot at 10am, but no other problems. Not surprisingly, it seems waits were much longer earlier in the morning.
I waited exactly an hour this morning in suburban Philadelphia but the line was much, much longer by the time I left at 9 am.
...in the *bustling metropolis* of Tucson, AZ. Shocking, right? Though the mass of college students out here do seem well mobilized...
