Good line from Mike Huckabee just now:

Sarah Palin got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Joe Biden got running for president.

[Technically, this is not true: Biden received nearly 64,000 votes, and the population of Wasilla is under 10,000.]

Consider this an open thread.

... interesting, if ultimately unconvincing gambit from Palin on foreign policy: She's making the case for more domestic energy production by citing supply risks in the Caucasus, Venezuela, and Iran. The math, of course, doesn't quite work. But it's a clever attempt at taking her policy strength -- energy -- and tying it to her biggest weakness -- foreign-policy experience.

... Here's the bit, from Palin's just-released prepared remarks:

With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.

To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.

And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we've got lots of both.

Good line, but just not true

Sure, it was a good line. There have been a lot of good lines. But like many of the other lines, it just wasn't true.

Palin: ~1,500 votes.

Biden: ~75,000 votes.

Lets be REAL honest...

...She STRUGGLED with this line. While I agree it was a clever way to try and link a supposed strength to a known weakness, it wasnt hers. She couldnt own the line because she was too busy READING it. I can just see it in those practice sessions she had. 'cau...cau...cau, come on Sarah sound it out, Kaw, Ka, sus,' Good job sweetie!

She was very comfortable talking about her family and attacking Obama, not so much about ANYTHING else. She will show time and time again in less controlled forums that she has no idea whats going on globally or otherwise. If people want to take that as an attack on small town hockey moms, fine. I remember the last govenor of a 'big' state with no foreign policy experience America allowed in the white house. He was good at looking the small town part and attacking people too. But not much else.

sick to my stomach

i don't know how to express my emotions properly in words. palin's speech absolutely disgusted me. it's the same old republican crap: rip down your opponent and offer new ideas of your own. the republicans throughout the entire convention haven't ONCE talked about policy. they haven't ONCE talked about how they are going to fix this economy other than to drill drill drill, which won't see any benefits for at LEAST 7 years. all they do is rip down the democrats and LIE. just plain LIES. obama is going to raise your taxes... if you make more than 250,000 a year. that's more than 95% of americans make. "has sponsored no important legislation"??? wtf? obama-lugar, obama-coburn? and the community organizer jibe. republicans truly don't care about the people who care about people. infuriating, hateful, spiteful, lying witch.

Does anyone know how much

Does anyone know how much influence she has on her speech writers? While it was well written for a GOP audience, I doubt she'll win any new votes with something like that. Was that the strategy?

I'm looking forward to her first press conference.
