Iraqi soldiers stand guard over rows of rifles seized by Iraqi security forces during recent operations in the Shiite enclave of Sadr City, June 18, 2008.
That's a lot of work for a photo op
This time of year Baghdad is well over 100 F in the afternoon.
If they had made prisoners lay those rifles out it would have been considered torture.

You are what you fight for.
Can someone tell me what the point of laying the guns out like that is? What a waste of time and energy. Would it not make more sense to destroy them or store them in an armory?
pretty picture, complete waste of time, energy, and effort...
Much more impressive than just saying that the security forces had captured so many guns. Of course, one has to wonder if some other guns got mixed in accidentally; sometimes, when you are doing a publicity stunt, stuff happens. One thing it does show is that the year old surge hasn't been all that successful in disarming the terrorists or stopping the flow of arms into terrorist hands.
It looks like these guns are about to be destroyed
The cheapest and fastest way to destroy these weapons is to lay them down on a hard surface and then to steam roll over them.
