We haven't done one of these in a while. What's happening out there on the Internets?
Well, Apple's WWDC will probably be the highlight of my day
I'm not sure why, but I will probably be following a couple of liveblogs of the keynote and stuff like that. I think I've done this for a couple of years now, twice a year (Macworld's in January), and I don't even own any Apple hardware.
Yay for conspicuous consumption in the Western world.
As for Canada, the Harper gov't will almost certainly be passing a new bill that will give new powers to the Immigration Minister, since they've made the bill into a confidence motion and thus rejecting the bill will trigger an election.
It really bothers me that the Conservatives have done this a huge number of times. Partly because the Liberals should've been preparing from day one for elections and they haven't, Stéphane Dion's English has been getting worse, somehow. I'm mostly annoyed because it's backhanded and undemocratic-feeling, since they've done this a dozen times on relatively minor issues (like this one).
I'm also really bothered by the eternal campaign they've been running; to have ads attacking the leader of opposition (on issues like a carbon tax, of all things) feels way underhanded since, well, yeah, no election's been called. It feels like you're meant to mentally swap the Conservative logo with the government of Canada logo.
I was going to bring up WWDC too. and my FP spin is that the microblogging site Twitter, which has had many problems staying up lately in the face of rapidly growing membership, has sent out an email claiming to be preparing specifically for the flood of WWDC related messages. In the mean time, what are students being arrested in Egypt and the like going to do?
Passport, FP’s flagship blog, brings you news and hidden angles on the biggest stories of the day, as well as insights and under-the-radar gems from around the world.
