This is sure to provide fodder for conspiracy theorists in the Middle East:

The Israeli newspaper Ma'ariv on Wednesday reported that Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu told an audience at Bar Ilan university that the September 11, 2001 terror attacks had been beneficial for Israel.

"We are benefiting from one thing, and that is the attack on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, and the American struggle in Iraq," Ma'ariv quoted the former prime minister as saying. He reportedly added that these events "swung American public opinion in our favor."

It amazes me that despite the fact that Osama bin Laden has admitted multiple times that he ordered the September 11th attacks, there are still plenty of people -- especially in Arab countries -- who believe otherwise. Netanyahu just gave those folks a huge gift.

Conspiracies

I wondered for a while how there could be majorities in the Arab world who simultaneously thought that bin Laden/al Qaeda weren't behind 9/11, while also believing that the attacks happened because of America's Middle East policies. But I guess the Mossad conspiracy theory explains it all for people who believe those things.

It amazes me despite the fact that it was the LIKUD LEADER Bibi Netanyahu who made this callous and insensitive statement, but the author of this blog is deflecting attention by talking about Arabs and conspiracy theorists. I suppose, it was the fault of conspiracy theorists, especially in Arab countries, that Netanyahu made his disgusting comment---comment extremely insensitive to the victims of 9/11.

I agree.

It is amazing, isn't it?

Just as amazing as all those Americans who still think invading Iraq was related to 9/11. Or weapons of mass destruction. Or international terrorism.

Of course, the huge difference is -- or so we're told -- America is a country with a free press.
