Buzkashi has been around for

Buzkashi has been around for hundreds if not thousands of years. Since finding materials to make balls or other objects to play with is not readily available in Afghanistan - they make use of what they've got - livestock.

It's kind of like polo only instead of a ball and mallets - they use a sacrificial animal to score goals with.
