The world's top think tanks
Wed, 01/09/2008 - 12:39pm
You've probably heard the names of Washington's most influential think tanks. In fact, many of them are right in our neighborhood: FP's publisher, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is downstairs, the Brookings Institution is next door, the American Enterprise Institute is just around the corner on 17th, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies is a little further away on K Street, to name just a few. But what about the rest of the world?
James G. McGann of the Foreign Policy Research Institute has published a report (pdf) on "the global go-to think tanks." Here's the list, which was compiled from a pool of 228 nominees using input from a panel of more than 50 international experts:
- Centre for European Policy Studies, Belgium
- French Institute of International Relations, France
- German Institute for International Politics and Security, Germany
- Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russia
- International Crisis Group, Belgium
- International Institute for Strategic Studies, United Kingdom
- Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies, Israel
- Japan Institute of International Affairs, Japan
- Royal Institute of International Affairs, United Kingdom
- Shanghai Institute for International Studies, China
