Mia Farrow ups the celebrity-activist ante
Take that, George Clooney. You and Angelina may talk a big game about Darfur, but Mia Farrow is willing to offer up her sweet, sweet freedom in the name of peace in Sudan.

Farrow sent a letter Sunday to Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, offering to take the place of detained Sudanese rebel figure/humanitarian activist Suleiman Jamous. Jamous works with the Sudanese Liberation Army, one of the main rebel groups, and he has been in government custody—and in dire need of medical attention—for over a year. Many observers, including Farrow, insist that Jamous is well-respected enough to bring the splintered rebel factions together and finally hammer out a peace deal with the government. Hence the offer to swap her Connecticut farm for a Sudanese jail cell.
However, just after Farrow made her offer, it was announced that representatives of the rebel groups meeting in Tanzania have agreed to sit down with the government. So, Farrow will be spared jail time for the time being. But I can't wait to see what Bono comes up with to top this.
