basketballHere's my excuse to blog about basketball. The NBA playoffs this year are not only must-see, but they're a showcase for global talent. This has been true for years, but it's worth pointing out anyway. I mean, the Most Valuable Player for the 2nd straight year is Steve Nash, a Canadian born in South Africa. (In my view the MVP should have gone to German Dirk Nowitski.) Here are some of the foreigners in the current rounds of play:

Dallas Mavericks  vs.  San Antonio Spurs
Dirk Nowitski (Germany)   Tony Parker (France)
DeSagana Diop (Senegal)    Manu Ginobili (Argentina)
     Beno Udrih (Slovenia)
     Rasho Nesterovic (Slovenia)
     Fabricio Oberto (Argentina)

In the other Western Conference semi-final (game 6 in progress right now):

Phoenix Suns  vs.  L.A. Clippers
Steve Nash (South Africa/Canada)   Vladimir Radmanovic (Bosnia)
Boris Diaw (France)
 Leandro Barbosa (Brazil)

Over in the Eastern Conference (winner plays Miami):

Detroit Pistons  vs.  Cleveland Cavaliers
Carlos Delfino (Argentina)   Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Lithuania)
    Anderson Varejao (Brazil)
