Here's my excuse to blog about basketball. The NBA playoffs this year are not only must-see, but they're a showcase for global talent. This has been true for years, but it's worth pointing out anyway. I mean, the Most Valuable Player for the 2nd straight year is Steve Nash, a Canadian born in South Africa. (In my view the MVP should have gone to German Dirk Nowitski.) Here are some of the foreigners in the current rounds of play:
| Dallas Mavericks | vs. | San Antonio Spurs |
| Dirk Nowitski (Germany) | Tony Parker (France) | |
| DeSagana Diop (Senegal) | Manu Ginobili (Argentina) | |
| Beno Udrih (Slovenia) | ||
| Rasho Nesterovic (Slovenia) | ||
| Fabricio Oberto (Argentina) |
In the other Western Conference semi-final (game 6 in progress right now):
| Phoenix Suns | vs. | L.A. Clippers |
| Steve Nash (South Africa/Canada) | Vladimir Radmanovic (Bosnia) | |
| Boris Diaw (France) | ||
| Leandro Barbosa (Brazil) |
Over in the Eastern Conference (winner plays Miami):
| Detroit Pistons | vs. | Cleveland Cavaliers |
| Carlos Delfino (Argentina) | Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Lithuania) | |
| Anderson Varejao (Brazil) |
