We team up with the fine folks of the Center for Global Development to Rank the Rich every year. We also co-sponsor the annual Commitment to Development Award with them, the MVP award of global development, which goes to the person or group "who has made a significant contribution to changing attitudes and policies towards the developing world."

There's a "people's choice" to the contest this year, and you can vote online. The candidates, in alphabetical order, are:

  1. Bill and Melinda Gates, Philanthropists
  2. Bono
  3. Doctors Without Borders
  4. Global Call to Action Against Poverty
  5. Jeffrey Sachs
  6. Jim Fruchterman, Founder and CEO of Benetech.org
  7. Jimmy Carter
  8. Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid
  9. Nobody
  10. Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ)
  11. Bill Clinton, Former US President
  12. William Easterly; Author and Professor, NYU

Again, here's the link to the online ballot. I think my vote is going to go to Nobody. Nobody had quite a year last year, and against great odds, Nobody is really chugging toward an agreement on the Doha Round of trade talks this year.
