BREAKING: Bob Gates nominated to head Pentagon

President Bush has just nominated Bob Gates, former director of the CIA and current president of Texas A&M University (where his Web page greets visitors with a hearty "Howdy!"), to succeed Donald Rumsfeld as defense secretary.
